The day had lasted far too long for Jack’s taste. Up at the crack of dawn, in uniform, and on the beat for…twenty-two hours. Fun fun fun. Shambling his way into the Renegade’s locker room like one of the undead, he fell to the floor.

“Leave me here. Go on without me. Sing songs of me to your children…but not you, HS. Your singing voice is terrible.” The older man snorted, lightly kicking Jack in the side. “Aaah, and you kick me while I’m down?! A sorry life this is!”

“Quit being such a drama queen and get up before Cold comes in. You trained harder than this in the academy.”

“But I don’t wanna.” Jack whined, stretching his limbs out like a starfish and tossing away his uncomfortable holster belt.

But luck was not on his side that day, as just as he pitched the belt, Cold came walking into the room. Of course fate would have their leader trip over his belt, land on his knees, and skid across the waxed floor to collide with Jack’s hips. Red-faced, Jack looked up at his Commander.

“Uh. Hey. Fancy meeting you here.”
