Flash Family rec list

touchofgrey37:

So, hey! The Flash family, huh? They had a good run (thanks for nothing, DC), but just because the majority of them are no longer around doesn’t mean that their stories of old are any less enjoyable. So here am I to present to you, a rec list for those who ride the lightning. I’ll provide links where I can, and where I can’t, well, maybe if you check this post at a later date, I’ll have found them.

While many of these characters appear in each other’s books (especially during the 90s), I’m going to try and isolate key issues, or issues I personally found particularly interesting, especially for characters that were used to headlining their own books for years.

Please keep in mind that I’m probably going to be leaving some stuff out, as the Flash is a legacy that spans decades longer than I’ve been alive. But I’ll try to do the best I can.

Also! While there have been many instances of the Flash in animated and live-action television, this list is just going to be focusing on the comic book aspect. Sorry, JLU and Young Justice fans.

Jay Garrick:

  • Flash v1 1-104
  • Justice Society of America v1
  • JSA
  • JSA: Classified
  • Justice Society of America v3 (I think it’s v3. The 2007 series)
  • Flash v2: specifically the arcs Terminal Velocity (95-98), Emergency Stop (130-132), and the stand-alone issue #134
  • Flash Rebirth (don’t read this please)
  • Earth-2 1-ongoing

Barry Allen:

  • Flash v1 105-350
  • Crisis on Infinite Earths (though not entirely necessary, this is the book where Barry died the first time, and I’d be a sham if I left it off)
  • here is a large gap that spans all of the 90s and most of the 2000s
  • oh wait I lied
  • The Life Story of The Flash by Iris Allen
  • Flash and Green Lantern: The Brave and the Bold (Waid-penned, and at one point, Barry and Ollie get into a catfight over Hal worth a read)
  • Final Crisis (don’t read this if you can avoid it)
  • Flash: Rebirth (please don’t you’ll only blame me)
  • Blackest Night
  • Blackest Night: The Flash (more of a Rogues story but things happen)
  • Flash v3 1-12 (the last six issues are all a giant Flashpoint lead-in)
  • Flashpoint (please don’t read this it’s not necessary it’s really not)
  • Flash v4 1-ongoing
  • Justice League (2011 series)

Wally West:

Bart Allen:

  • Impulse 1-89 plus annuals
  • Flash v2 starting with #92
  • Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. 5, 6, 8
  • Young Justice
  • Sins of Youth
  • Titans/Young Justice Graduation Day
  • The Titans
  • Teen Titans v3
  • Teen Titans/Legion special
  • Flash Rebirth (love yourself)
  • Flash v3
  • Teen Titans 2011 reboot (you’re better off stabbing yourself in the eyes, though)

Jesse Chambers:

  • Justice Society of America (1992) 1-10
  • Flash v2, with particular emphasis on the Terminal Velocity, Dead Heat, Chain Lightning, and Blood Will Run arcs
  • Impulse issue 22
  • The Titans
  • Titans/Legion of Superheroes Universe Ablaze
  • Titans/Young Justice Graduation Day
  • JSA issues 34, 35, 37, 52-54, 81
  • JSA: Classified 34
  • Justice Society of America v3
  • JSA: All-Stars v2
  • Justice League of America (2006) 44-60

Jenni Ognats:

  • Legion of Superheroes v2
  • Legionnaires, especially Legionnaires Annual 3
  • Legends of the Legion
  • Legion Worlds
  • The Legion
  • Impulse issues 9, 10, 12, 25
  • Flash v2 issues 108, 109, 112, 148, 149
  • Titans/Legion of Superheroes: Universe Ablaze
  • Teen Titans/Legion special
  • Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds
  • Adventure Comics 526

Walter West:

  • Flash v2 issues 150-156, 158, 159

Thad Thawne:

  • Impulse issues 50-53, and 62-66
  • nothing else
  • nothing else at all
  • especially not Flash: Fastest Man Alive, the Titans East arc of Teen Titans, or Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge

Max Mercury:

  • Flash v2 starting with issue 76
  • Impulse
  • Flash: Rebirth (don’t do it)
  • Kid Flash Lost

That should about do it! As you can see, the Flash family has done a lot, and that’s just the stuff I can remember off the top of my head. A special thanks to those who took the time and effort to actually put stuff on Mediafire and the like, for us poor slobs to download.

Remember that time when Bart was the most powerful being in the universe and he used all that power to get his family back

Oh my god go away Bart Saves the Universe it literally the worst comic if you love speedsters.
By which I mean it’s the worst comic to read post-reboot because we could have had it all.

Hey, who remembers that time Linda Park died and her boyfriend took it so hard that he raced Death to the end of creation…

and brought her back?

And He Is.

[Flash v2 145]

Ugh I love love love this splash shot, because it so clearly shows the personalities of each runner. Wally’s leaping towards the future, fist extended, ready to punch the hell out of their problem. Max is also leaping forward, but he’s got his fists at his sides; ready if he needs them, but not so eager to beat up the bad guy. Jay is launching himself at the enemy, who’d best do his pants-wetting before he gets there, gosh darnit. Jesse has her game face on, and is clearly flying rather than running, she’s faster that way. Bart’s tripping over his feet a bit, but you know he’s still going to be the first one there, and the last one to leave.
Hi Flash fam feels, I wasn’t expecting you.

I had a sad thought about Wally just now that actually makes me kind of happy.

I’m glad that DC hasn’t allowed the Flash team to bring Wally back as a teenager, because that means we’d lose Linda, Jai, and Irey.

At least wherever they are right now, they’re there as a family.
